Insurance Coverage for Frenuloplasty of the Penis
Most insurances provide coverage for treatment of frenulum breve of the penis with frenuloplasty or circumcision when frenulum breve causes problems such as tears, irritation, pain during sex and bleeding.
We require prepayment in full for frenuloplasty. Part of or the full cost of frenuloplasty may be covered by commercial insurance plans after deductibles/coinsurances/copayments if circumcision is performed for a medically necessary reason and if you have out-of-network benefits.
Same-day frenuloplasty is convenient for patients from outside the New York area and can save a lot of money.
If frenuloplasty is performed for non-medical or aesthetic reasons, medical insurance does not typically cover the costs of aesthetic frenuloplasty.

An initial consultation is required ($285) prior to any procedure. The cost of frenuloplasty includes 3 post-procedure follow up visits (which alone are valued at $555).
- Total out-of-pocket costs are $1,485 for frenuloplasty under LOCAL anesthesia (initial visit and circumcision cost includes 3 postoperative visits).
- Need for complex reconstruction, grafts/flaps may incur additional fees.

Additional costs that may be incurred by some patients: laboratory tests and pathology test costs if necessary. All procedures come with no-extra-cost in-office follow up care for 90 days. (Aesthetic dissatisfaction is not covered; hospital, surgical center, and anesthesia costs; outside diagnostic test costs if necessary are not covered). |

When Does Insurance Pay for Frenuloplasty?
Insurances pay for frenuloplasty or frenulectomy when there is a medical need. In other words, when the frenulum of the penis is causing a problem. Examples include:
- Pain with erections or during sex
- Penile curvature causing problems
- Infection of Frenulum (Genital warts, etc)
- Pain or Bleeding During Sex
The cost of frenuloplasty depends on whether it is performed under local anesthesia in the office settings or in the hospital with anesthesia. The cost is higher if performed in the hospital or ambulatory surgery center. We typically perform frenuloplasty in our office under local anesthesia with minimal discomfort.

Typically the cost of circumcision is least when performed in a sterile room in the office settings. It is more expensive by $1,000-$3,000 in the outpatient surgery center and can cost anywhere from $2,000-$5,000 more if performed in the hospital.
Circumcision under local anesthesia is the least expensive as it can be performed in the office setting which avoids the charges associated with surgical centers and hospitals. It also avoids the cost of anesthesia and the anesthesiologist who provides it.
