What Is Khitan Or Khatna?

Khitan or Khatna is a ritual circumcision for Muslim boys and men.  Male circumcision is considered to be a fitra (features of refinement) by some hadith.

When Is Muslim Circumcision Performed?

There is no set time when Muslim circumcision needs to be performed.  The timing varies by culture, region and personal preferences.  In many Muslim cultures, the male child is circumcised either at birth or around puberty, age 10-12.  In some cultures, circumcision is performed later in life.

Who Can Perform Muslim Circumcision?

There is no particular requirement as to who can perform Khitan (circumcision).  Usually, circumcision is performed by a surgeon in a clinic, hospital or surgical center.  The person who performs circumcision does not have to be Muslim.

Circumcision As Part Of The Ritual Of Converting To Islam.

Some men choose to have circumcision as part of their ritual of converting to Islam.  For these men, we perform adult circumcision (Khitan).  This can be done in the convenience of our office.

How Painful is Adult Khatna (adult circumcision)?

Adult circumcision is usually performed in the office under local anesthesia. Most men have minimal to no pain. Many do not require pain medications after the procedure.

What is the Recovery after Khitan (circumcision procedure)?

Most men are able to return to office work within 1-2 days after the circumcision procedure performed at New York Urology Specialists.  Men are able to go to the gym within 1 week after the procedure.  Typically one needs to avoid sex or masturbation for 6 weeks after the procedure.
