In the office, the procedure will be performed under local anesthesia<\/a><\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n We may, in addition, administer an injection in the penis for some men to create an artificial erection during circumcision. We administer pain medications that last for 12 hours after surgery. This should assure minimal pain after circumcision. Any activity that causes pain or discomfort should not be done.<\/p>\n Usually, after circumcision, you may take showers 1 day after the procedure. The dressing is removed before a shower and re-applied after shower daily. No swimming and no beach trips are allowed for 2 weeks.<\/strong> No sexual activity or masturbation is permitted for 6 weeks after circumcision. You may occasionally see a few drops of blood in the first 1-2 weeks after circumcision.<\/p>\n Some men experience pain with erections at night<\/strong> for the first week; these typically go away within the first 7-10 days.<\/strong> Some men experience split urine stream<\/strong> for the first few days; again these typically get better within 7-10 days after circumcision or circumcision revision. We use sutures that go away<\/strong> and do not require removal. Our patients are highly satisfied with outcomes and are able to return to enjoying sexual activity after circumcision.<\/p>\n Patients will usually be seen for follow up in 2 weeks after circumcision. Patients that are out-of-the-area can have a virtual follow-up and do not require to come back to our office. <\/strong>The actual need to come back to our office is less than 1% (infection or hematoma). Sutures will typically fall out by week 3-4 after the procedure. Taking warm baths after 2 weeks will help to dissolve the sutures.<\/p>\n Circumcision does not have any effect on erection quality, does not affect the ability to have children.
