Circumcision with Shang Ring: Good Option for Many but Not for Everyone<\/h2>\n

ShangRing circumcision<\/a><\/strong> is a good option for many men and children who desire circumcision for aesthetic, hygienic, religious, or cosmetic reasons. <\/p>\n

ShangRing can also be performed for most men and many children with mild to moderate phimosis<\/a> <\/strong>or balanitis<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Some men and children with more complicated<\/strong> needs are best served with traditional circumcision which allows an experienced surgeon to correct complex problems.<\/p>\n

Circumcision for Patients with Complex Medical Problems<\/h2>\n

Patients who have severe balanitis with phimosis<\/strong>, or balanitis xerotica obliterans<\/strong> with adhesions of penile skin to glans penis cannot<\/strong> for technical reasons undergo ShangRing circumcision.  These patients usually require traditional sleeve circumcision<\/a><\/strong> to address their medical problems.  Often, the presence of balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO)<\/a> <\/strong>is not known in patients with severe phimosis until phimosis is addressed.  As a result, some patients who desire ShangRing circumcision may require to have a traditional circumcision done instead.<\/p>\n

Patients with moderate to severe penoscrotal webbing<\/strong><\/a> are often best served by traditional sleeve circumcision with modified flap creation to prevent the worsening of penoscrotal webbing.  For patients with a minimal penoscrotal web, often ShangRing circumcision can be adjusted sufficiently to allow good aesthetic outcomes.<\/p>\n

Patients with tight frenulum of the penis<\/a><\/strong>, or frenulum breve<\/strong>, are best served either by traditional circumcision or will require frenuloplasty in addition to ShangRing circumcision<\/strong>.  Frenuloplasty may be performed at the same time as ShangRing circumcision.  ShangRing circumcision does not remove the frenulum of the penis<\/strong> completely in most patients. Frenuloplasty can be performed during ShangRing procedure or at a later date.<\/p>\n
