The most common cause of balanitis <\/a>in diabetic men is a candidal (fungal) infection<\/strong>.  Most of the time balanitis caused by fungal infection can be treated with antifungal antibiotics. Repeated bouts of balanitis can lead to the development of fibrosis<\/strong>, scarring of the foreskin which leads to phimosis (difficulty with pulling the foreskin back).  Small cuts or lacerations<\/strong> of the foreskin are common in men with recurrent fungal balanitis.<\/p>\n

Phimosis<\/strong> <\/a>in diabetic men tends to be more fibrotic and less responsive to corticosteroid cream.  As a result, circumcision is the most effective treatment option for balanitis and phimosis in diabetic men.<\/p>\n
