How Does the AMS-700 Penile Implant Work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

During the insertion procedure for the AMS-700 three-piece penile prosthesis, a pair of cylinders<\/strong> are implanted in the penis, a pump<\/strong> is placed inside the scrotum, and a reservoir<\/strong> containing sterile saline solution is placed in the lower abdomen. Pumping (squeezing and releasing) the pump in the scrotum (\u201cballsac\u201d) fills the cylinders in the penis with the saline solution (sterile water) from the reservoir and creates a natural-looking erection.<\/p>\n

When the deflate button<\/strong> is pressed, the saline is returned to the reservoir and the penis returns to its natural, flaccid (non-erect) state.<\/p>\n

Most men find the AMS-700 inflatable penile implant easy to use. The surgery is performed under anesthesia<\/strong> (general or spinal). It is not uncommon for men to experience some pain and soreness<\/strong><\/a> at the surgical site for a few days to a few weeks. Patients are able to return to light routine activities within a few days. We typically advise men to wait 6 weeks before sexual intercourse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As with all surgeries, there is a small risk<\/strong> of complications. The risks associated with modern penile prosthesis insertion procedures are small. However, potential complications may include:<\/p>\n
