Scrotal reduction surgery is also called “scrotal lift<\/strong>.”<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This is a relatively minor procedure in which excess skin is removed from the scrotum. It is performed in men with excessive scrotal skin<\/strong> as a result of prior hydrocele, scrotal swelling and skin hypertrophy, trauma, elephantiasis, or the normal aging process.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In addition to cosmetic concerns and self-esteem issues<\/strong> arising from a large scrotum, enlargement of the scrotum or excess skin in the area can lead to irritation and discomfort in the upper thigh area, especially during workouts in tight clothing. The reduction procedure restores a more natural and aesthetically appealing shape and appearance to the scrotum. The scrotal reduction is also called “scrotal lift<\/strong>” or ‘testicular lift.”<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Depending on the extent of scrotal reduction required, the procedure can be performed either in the office under local anesthesia. <\/strong>It can also be performed at a surgical center or hospital under general anesthesia. Recovery can take from a few weeks to a few months for the area to heal completely. Scrotal reduction surgery may be covered by health insurance in certain situations.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Scrotal enlargement surgery<\/strong> can be performed to enlarge the scrotum. Typically we use skin expanders to slowly expand the scrotal space<\/strong>. Skin expanders are often used in plastic surgery to expand the skin. Alternatively, a non-surgical option for scrotal enhancement<\/a> <\/strong>includes the use of skin fillers, such as hyaluronic acid injections, that can be used to make the scrotal skin thicker and give the scrotum a larger appearance<\/strong>. The injection in the scrotum<\/a> may relax the scrotal muscles and make the scrotum ‘hang’ more in men who experience ‘shrinking’ scrotum when they are stressed or in cold weather.<\/p>\r\n Scrotal enlargement surgery can be performed for cosmetic reasons or to correct an anatomical abnormality.<\/p>\r\n Some men desire cosmetic enlargement of the scrotum<\/strong>. Some men are born with a very small, underdeveloped scrotum<\/strong>, also known as ‘hypoplastic’ scrotum. This commonly occurs when the testicle is absent or does not develop normally. The scrotum can also ‘atrophy’ as a result of testicular loss due to trauma or surgery.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Men who are born without a testicle<\/strong> or lose a testicle<\/strong> as a result of trauma<\/strong>, testicular torsion<\/strong>, cancer,<\/strong> or surgery often have an underdeveloped, small scrotum<\/strong>. If the scrotum is underdeveloped and a man desires a testicular implant, the implant will not sit in a low scrotal position. Penoscrotal web repair is a type of scrotoplasty used to repair penoscrotal webbing.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In some adult men, the junction between the scrotum and penis is indistinct, with the scrotum extending onto the underside of the penis. This is called scrotal webbing. The penoscrotal web<\/strong> can cause symptoms such as difficulty keeping condoms on and difficulty or discomfort with penetration during sex due to the scrotum riding up on the penis. The condition may also cause cosmetic concerns due to the turkey neck appearance<\/strong> of the genitalia from penoscrotal webbing.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Penoscrotal web repair can often be performed in our office under local anesthesia <\/strong>or at a surgical center under general anesthesia.
