Small Scrotum: Treatment of Scrotal Problems in Men<\/h2>\r\n

\"\"Small scrotal size<\/strong> is a problem that affects men who were born without a testicle, experienced testicular trauma or injury at a young age, or underwent orchiectomy.  A missing testicle<\/strong> during development and growth leads to an underdeveloped scrotum on the side where the testicle is missing<\/strong>.  <\/p>\r\n

Scrotal Wall Expanders for Treatment of Scrotal Hypoplasia (Small Scrotum Syndrome)<\/h2>\r\n

A small, underdeveloped, or ‘hypoplastic’ scrotum can be enlarged with excellent long-term results. At New York Urology Specialists, we use surgical-grade silicone scrotal expanders. The procedure can usually be performed in our office under sterile conditions and takes less than 1 hour to perform.  Scrotal expansion with scrotal expanders is a process that can take 4-8 weeks,<\/strong> during which the scrotal walls are passively and slowly stretched.  Usually, weekly visits are necessary<\/strong> to monitor progress and to continue with the progressive expansion of the scrotum by the addition of sterile saline to the scrotal expander.  Once the scrotum has expanded to the desired volume, the scrotal expander is removed, and a permanent testicular implant is placed.<\/p>\r\n

Due to the need for weekly visits, patients are advised to limit their travel to avoid interruption to the scheduled visits.<\/p>\r\n

Success Rate of Scrotal Enlargement with Scrotal Expanders<\/h2>\r\n

The risk of infection is very low (<1-2%); the risk of bleeding and hematoma formation is low (<2%).  The risk of erosion is <5%.  The patient satisfaction<\/strong> with scrotal expansion prior to testicular implants is over 90%. <\/p>\r\n

Recovery after Scrotal Expander Insertion<\/h2>\r\n

Most men experience minimal pain after insertion of scrotal expanders that lasts for 1 day.  Typically, mild pain with a pain score of 4-5\/10 will occur when additional fluid is added weekly to further expand the scrotal size and volume.  Pain typically resolves within 1 day.<\/p>\r\n

Most men are able to return to work the next day. Physical activity and sexual activity can be resumed within 1-2 days after the procedure, as tolerated.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
