What to Expect: Recovering from Hydrocelectomy<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Diet<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

You can eat and drink normally<\/strong> after hydrocelectomy. Social alcohol consumption is permitted 1-2 days after the procedure, provided it is done responsibly, of course.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Exercise and Gym<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Men may return to the gym<\/strong> 2 weeks after hydrocelectomy. We advise no biking or any other type of exercise that involves the scrotum for 1 month<\/strong> after hydrocelectomy.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Showering<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

You may shower 24 hours after the surgery<\/strong>. We recommend patting the incision dry and avoiding baths<\/strong> for the first week.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Sex<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

You may resume sexual activity<\/strong> 2-3 weeks after hydrocele repair, as long as the scrotal incision is healing well.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Beach, Pool, Swimming<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We advise against going to the beach or swimming in a pool, ocean, river, or lake<\/strong> for 3-4 weeks after hydrocele repair to avoid the risks of infection.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Wound Care and Stitches<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

No special wound care is needed. We use self-resorbing sutures (stitches) that typically fall off on their own 3-6 weeks after the procedure.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Travel after Hydrocelectomy <\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Patients who are not from New York City can travel the same day or the next day<\/strong> after hydrocele repair.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Scrotal Size after Hydrocele Repair<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

For men with large hydroceles, the redundant scrotum typically shrinks within 3-6 months of the procedure. If scrotal redundancy is still of concern 6 months after hydrocelectomy, scrotal reduction surgery<\/a><\/strong> may be undertaken.  <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
