What is Perineal Pain?<\/h2>\n

\"shutterstock_61928983\"Perineal pain<\/a><\/strong> in men can be a disturbing and uncomfortable symptom.  The pain may be located in the perineum but may also radiate to the testes and the rectum<\/strong>. It is important to note that in males, pain in the perineum has very different causes than in women.<\/p>\n

There are several causes of perineal pain in men.  Musculoskeletal pain<\/strong> caused by tension or stretching or tears in the muscles over the perineum or peroneal ligaments leads to pain and discomfort, especially during movement in some men.<\/p>\n

Perineal pain can also be originating from the rectum, the urinary bladder, or the prostate.<\/p>\n

Enlarged Prostate and BPH as a Cause of Perineal Pain In Men<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Perineal pain may be caused by incomplete bladder emptying<\/strong>, which in turn may be a result of an enlarged prostate<\/a> or urethral stricture.  We successfully treat men with incomplete bladder emptying, which often leads to a prompt resolution of pain.<\/p>\n

Infection as a Cause of Perianal and Perineal Pain<\/h2>\n

Urinary infection<\/a> or prostate infections<\/a> came cause perineal pain.  Typically this is accompanied by frequent urination<\/a> and burning with urination<\/a> or urinary urgency<\/a>.  Some sexually transmitted diseases may also cause similar symptoms.<\/p>\n

Neuropathy as a Cause of Perineal Pain in Men<\/h2>\n

Abnormal nerve sensation<\/strong> in the perineum may also lead to perineal pain.  Conditions such as diabetes can cause neuropathy.  Neuropathy<\/strong> can also be caused by many other conditions and is sometimes self-propagating.  Hypersensitivity of the nerves in the perineum can cause persistent pain after a mild injury.<\/p>\n
