Narrowing of the penis has also been described as a narrow “waist”<\/strong> or hourglass deformity<\/strong> of the penis.<\/p>\n A common symptom associated with thinning and narrowing of the penis is a poor-quality erection<\/strong><\/a>. Typically, the area just before or after the narrowing does not get sufficiently hard when erect, with noticeable softness<\/strong> in the penis.<\/p>\n Penile narrowing ‘hourglass<\/strong> appearance’ associated with Peyronie’s disease is one of the most challenging symptoms of Peyronie’s to treat.<\/p>\n While it may respond to injectable therapy<\/a><\/strong>, typically the treatment of severe narrowing would require excision and grafting of the plaque<\/a><\/strong>, often combined with insertion of a penile prosthesis<\/a><\/strong>. Dr. Alex Shteynshlyuger is an experienced surgeon who treats men with narrowing of the penis caused by Peyronie’s disease.<\/p>\n The penile narrowing is caused by scar formation<\/strong> in the penis. This scar is called “Peyronie’s plaque<\/a><\/strong>” when it can be felt. Often, men can feel a lump in the penis<\/strong> where the narrowing or hourglass appearance is. <\/p>\n Some men with poor erections may not notice much curvature<\/strong> because often a very strong erection is necessary to fully visualize the curvature that is present.<\/span><\/p>\n Usually, when there is smoke, there is fire. Similarly, when there is penile narrowing, it is often associated with Peyronie’s disease. Another cause of penile narrowing is phimosis,<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>which affects the penile skin.<\/span> Phimosis is easily diagnosed by a visual inspection.<\/p>\n Indentation of the penis,<\/strong> causing narrowing of the penis, is often associated with loss of erectile hardness. This apparently is caused by scar affecting blood vessels and blood flow in the penis. Erectile dysfunction<\/a> <\/strong>is a common symptom associated with Peyronie’s disease<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n When penile narrowing is significant and circumferential, it often causes the penis to bend severely when erect<\/strong> during penetration.
