We also see <a title=\"International and out-of-the-area patients\" href=\"\/?page_id=1490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">international patients <\/a>from&nbsp;Canada, Japan, South America, Russia, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean and other parts of the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>Zytiga: A Game Changer in Prostate Cancer<\/h2>\n<p>Zytiga or abiraterone&nbsp;is a novel hormonal treatment for men with prostate cancer. &nbsp;High-quality randomized controlled studies have demonstrated that Zytiga provides improved survival in men who have failed hormonal therapy with LHRH antagonists as well as chemotherapy with&nbsp;docetaxel.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence points that Zytiga&nbsp;is a much more powerful hormonal treatment&nbsp;than the traditional LHRH antagonists or agonists. &nbsp;It is fairly likely that eventually, medications such as Zytiga or <a title=\"Xtandi (enzalutamide) for Treatment of Prostate Cancer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkurologyspecialists.com\/prostate-cancer\/xtandi-enzalutamide\/\">Xtandi <\/a>will replace LHRH antagonists and agonists as the first line treatment for high-risk prostate cancer and for PSA recurrence.<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-815\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkurologyspecialists.com\/prostate-cancer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/testosterone_shutterstock_121159390-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"Zytiga: Testosterone Hit\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkurologyspecialists.com\/prostate-cancer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/testosterone_shutterstock_121159390-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.newyorkurologyspecialists.com\/prostate-cancer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/testosterone_shutterstock_121159390-370x268.jpg 370w, https:\/\/www.newyorkurologyspecialists.com\/prostate-cancer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2014\/04\/testosterone_shutterstock_121159390.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Zytiga &#8211; Mechanism of Action and Prescription Details<\/h3>\n<p>ZYTIGA\u00ae is a CYP17 inhibitor indicated in combination with prednisone for the treatment of patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer <b>before or after chemotherapy with docetaxel. <\/b>It<b> <\/b>inhibits 17 \u03b1hydroxylase\/C17,20-lyase (CYP17). This enzyme is expressed in testicular, adrenal, and prostatic tumor tissues and is required for androgen biosynthesis.<\/p>\n<p>The recommended dose of ZYTIGA\u00ae is 1,000 mg (four 250 mg tablets) administered <b>orally once daily<\/b> in combination with <b>prednisone<\/b> 5 mg BID.<\/p>\n<p><b>Side effects versus placebo: Hypertension (1.3 vs 0.3%)<\/b>, <b>Hypokalemia<\/b> (5% vs 1%) and <b>Fluid Retention (1.8 vs 0.8%), CHF (1.8 vs 0.3%)<\/b> Due to Mineralocorticoid Excess, UTI 2% vs 0.5%<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Studies that Support Use of Zytiga in the Treatment of Prostate Cancer<\/h2>\n<p>Trials excluded patients with CHF<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must take at least 2 hours before\/after food.<\/li>\n<li>Need to monitor Potassium, Calcium levels.<\/li>\n<li>Must take prednisone.<\/li>\n<li>Side effects: Hypertension, <strong><i>low blood potassium levels (hypokalemia), and fluid retention (edema).<\/i><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Men with mCRPC who had received chemotherapy with docetaxel and who were treated with ZYTIGA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>&nbsp;plus prednisone lived longer than men who were treated with placebo (sugar pill) plus prednisone.
