Monogamous Relationships: Do You Need Gardasil-9 HPV Vaccination?

I am in a monogamous relationship with my current partner. Do I need the Gardasil-9 HPV vaccine?

You should seriously consider getting the HPV vaccine even if you are in a monogamous relationship.

HPV-related genital warts may not develop for many months to years after a person is infected.  Infection with cancer-causing HPV strains does not cause any visible symptoms.  This means your current sexual partner may be carrying a latent or dormant HPV infection without any signs or symptoms and could still transmit the infection to you even though they do not have visible genital warts. Gardasil-9 offers protection from 9 strains of the virus that cause the majority of genital warts and genital cancers in women.

It is also worth remembering that monogamy on your end is not always reciprocated. Some women find out that their partner has been cheating on them and not practicing safe sex. Vaccination with HPV vaccine protects them in the current monogamous relationship as well as with any new partner in the future.

HPV Vaccination and Divorce from Long-term partners.

Older women may benefit from Gardasil-9 vaccination especially if they find themselves in new situations.

For example, a woman who married her high-school or college boyfriend and has had only 1-3 sex partners in her life may get divorced in her 30s or 40s. Gardasil can be expected to offer her significant protection against HPV in new relationships.
