What is Trichomoniasis or Trichomonas?

Trichomonas is an infectious parasite that causes trichomoniasis (or “trich” as it is commonly called).

Trichomoniasis is one of the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD) in both men and women. It is more common today than chlamydia and gonorrhea in many populations in the US.

Symptoms of Trichomonas in Men

Most men who are infected with trichomonas have no symptoms; some men develop symptoms of urethritis such as frequent urination, pain or burning when they urinate, urethral discharge from the penis and difficulty emptying bladder.  Other common causes of urethritis may cause similar symptoms to trich; for these reasons routine testing for other STDs is recommended including gonorrhea testing, chlamydia testing, and ureaplasma testing

Where to Get Tested for Trichomoniasis in NYC?

At New York Urology Specialists, we offer same-day Trichomoniasis treatment for men and women.

We also perform comprehensive STD testing for other infections. We offer confidential appointments. Our prices are affordable with or without insurance.  Call/text today: 1-646-663-4125 or make an appointment online.

Treatment of Trichomonas or Trich in Men

Effective treatment with antibiotics can cure trichomoniasis in men. Men who test positive for trichomonas should be tested for other sexually transmitted diseases.  Trichomoniasis increases the risk of being co-infected with chlamydia and other STI.  Usually, a single dose of an antibiotic such as Flagyl is effective for the treatment of trichomonas.  Female sexual partners may also be tested and treated for trichomonas at New York Urology Specialists.

Testing for Trichomonas in Men

Effective tests in men include urethral swab and urine tests for Trichomonas.  At New York Urology Specialists we use modern DNA-based testing that detects more than 95% of infections with great accuracy.  With a negative test, you can be assured that there is no trich infection.

Many men who have trichomonas infection may also have other STDs. We offer comprehensive STD testing for men and their partners.  Same-day STD testing is available.
