How Long is a Person Contagious with Mycoplasma?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Yes, <strong>Mycoplasma is contagious<\/strong>. M. hominis and M. genitalium spread from person to person through unprotected vaginal or anal sexual intercourse.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent infection, it is important to <strong>practice safe sex and always use a condom.<\/strong> You can reduce your chances of contracting Mycoplasma and other sexually transmitted infections by limiting the number of sexual partners you have.&nbsp; Testing for mycoplasma routinely and <strong>treatment of infection in both partners<\/strong> prior to engaging in unprotected sex is the next best option.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, M. genitalium<strong> infections are frequently asymptomatic<\/strong> (an infected person may show <strong>no signs<\/strong> or symptoms of disease). However, an infected person remains contagious with Mycoplasma until treatment has been completed and any symptoms, if present, have disappeared. Sometimes, <strong>a second test, confirmation of cure that is performed 3 weeks after treatment, may be necessary to confirm cure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is essential that <strong>both sexual partners are tested and treated concurrently<\/strong> to prevent infection being passed back and forth from the untreated partner. Abstinence from sex or use of condoms is recommended while treatment is underway and until a test of cure is performed because sexual partners remain contagious for Mycoplasma and other STDs during this time.<\/p>\n<p>If you have tested positive for Mycoplasma genitalium, it <strong>does not necessarily indicate infidelity<\/strong> on the part of your sexual partner. Mycoplasma infections remain asymptomatic in some people.
