Sexually transmitted diseases are a common concern for women of all ages. Whether you are in an exclusive relationship or have multiple sexual partners, it is advisable to have routine STD testing<\/a><\/strong>.  Routine HPV-vaccination<\/a><\/strong> is recommended to all women under age 45.<\/p>\n

Some sexually transmitted diseases<\/a> may not show symptoms. In fact, most women with STDs don’t know they have it.<\/strong> Such common STDs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, HPV infection<\/a><\/strong>, HIV, ureaplasma<\/a>, mycoplasma often cause no symptoms<\/strong>.  You may get infected with an STI even if you always have sex with condoms.<\/p>\n

Herpes virus<\/a><\/strong> and HPV virus that causes genital warts and cervical cancer can infect through the skin to skin contact outside the reach of a condom.<\/p>\n

Sexually transmitted diseases can be transmitted<\/strong> through vaginal, oral sex<\/a>, and anal sex<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In women, many STIs even if not symptomatic may predispose to unpleasant problems such as infertility<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

HPV Vaccination in Women Protects Against Cervical Cancer and Genital Warts<\/strong><\/h2>\n

HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that can cause unsightly and embarrassing genital warts<\/a><\/strong>. The HPV virus can also predispose to cervical cancer<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span>  The HPV vaccine is now recommended to all girls and women from ages 12-45<\/strong>.  Women older than 45<\/a> may also benefit<\/strong> from Gardasil-9 vaccination. <\/p>\n

At New York Urology Specialists, we offer Gardasil-9 vaccination to all women<\/a> as well as their sexual partners<\/strong>. Gardasil-9 HPV vaccine may be effective even for women with a history of HPV infection, including women who had a positive PAP smear<\/a><\/strong>, genital warts<\/a><\/strong> or a positive DNA test for HPV.<\/p>\n

T<\/strong>he HPV vaccine is recommended even if a woman has a history of genital warts or an abnormal Pap test<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Pregnant women<\/strong> should wait until the completion of pregnancy<\/strong> before getting the HPV vaccine as its effects on the fetus are not known.<\/p>\n
