Bladder diverticula: In some individuals, a pouch or diverticulum is formed in the bladder wall) where urine can accumulate and precipitate to form crystals.   This most commonly occurs due to enlarged prostate causing obstruction and high voiding pressures in the bladder.

Kidney stones: Sometimes, a stone from the kidney travels to the bladder without causing severe pain that typically brings patients with kidney stones to see a doctor.

Neurogenic Bladder: Patients with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, and spinal injury often require urethral catheters. They are at higher risk of developing stones. In addition, if patients are bed-bound, bone resorption causes elevated calcium levels in urine.
