Treatment of Frequent Urination at Night: What You Need to Know<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Urination at night, or nocturia, has many causes in men. <\/p>\n

Waking night at night may seem like a minor issue, but it can cause significant problems. Studies show that waking up at night interrupts REM sleep.  <\/strong> Lack of adequate sleep and rest leads to tiredness during the day; it can cause lower libido and erection problems. In addition, it increases the risk of falls at night, trying to make it to the bathroom, and fractures in the elderly.<\/p>\n

Some causes of nocturia are normal and related to behavior<\/strong>: Drinking at night before going to sleep<\/strong> is a common cause of frequent urination at night in younger men. Many men work out at night and then drink a lot of fluids which causes them to wake up.<\/p>\n

Frequent urination at night in men can cause significant problems<\/strong>, including persistent lack of energy and tiredness because of lack of adequate sleep and abnormal hormonal production<\/strong> as a result of disturbed sleep.<\/p>\n

Evaluation of Men with Frequent Urination at Night<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"FrequentA comprehensive evaluation of men includes urine testing<\/strong>, ultrasound<\/strong> of the bladder and kidneys, urodynamic testing, and cystoscopy.  A PSA test is also typically ordered.<\/p>\n

Treatment of men with excessive urination at night.<\/p>\n

Treatment is guided by the findings of diagnostic testing.  The most common cause of frequent urination at night in men is urinary tract obstruction from an enlarged prostate<\/strong>.  Many men also experience overactive bladder<\/strong><\/a> as a result of an enlarged prostate.<\/p>\n

Medical, minimally invasive, as well as surgical treatment of enlarged prostate is effective at treating the causes of frequent urination at night.<\/p>\n

In men<\/strong>, nocturia is most commonly caused by an enlarged prostate, typically in men over age 45-50, but in some men, the symptoms may start earlier in the mid-’30s. <\/p>\n

Diabetes is a common cause of urination at night and may be the first sign of the problem.<\/p>\n
