What is Ultrasound?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ultrasound is a very useful diagnostic test<\/strong> used for evaluation of urinary problems.  Ultrasound is noninvasive, creates no radiation, inexpensive and pain-free.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What are the Reasons that an Ultrasound is Done?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kidney ultrasound or renal ultrasound<\/strong> is often performed for patients with back pain and flank pain, for patients with kidney stones<\/a>, hydronephrosis or ureteral obstruction<\/a>.  Images obtained from kidney ultrasound can be used for diagnostic purposes as well as monitoring purposes after treatment.<\/p>\n

Kidney ultrasound can detect kidney stones, renal masses, kidney cysts<\/a>, hydronephrosis as well as other kidney problems.<\/p>\n

Pelvic ultrasound<\/strong><\/a> or bladder ultrasound is very useful for evaluation of urinary problems such as slow urine stream, urge to urinate, frequent urination, frequent UTI<\/a> and urine incontinence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pelvic ultrasound <\/strong>can detect enlarged prostate in males<\/a>, uterine fibroids in women, ovarian cysts as well as pregnancy.  Bladder ultrasound can detect bladder stones, bladder diverticula, bladder trabeculations and incomplete bladder emptying as well as distal ureteral stones at UVJ<\/a><\/p>\n

What to Expect After an Ultrasound Study?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There is no pain and no radiation associated with ultrasound studies. There is no recovery involved after ultrasound studies performed at New York Urology Specialists.<\/p>\n

Test results are typically available immediately or within a short period of time.  Patients can return home immediately after testing.  Our patients travel back to Brooklyn, Queens, NJ, Bronx LI without any difficulty after ultrasound tests.<\/p>\n
