Frequent UTI: What You Need to Know<\/h2>\n

\"\"UTIs<\/strong> are a common source of urinary problems in men and women of all ages.  Common symptoms of UTI<\/strong> include bladder discomfort, pelvic pain, burning with urination, urge to urinate, and constant need to urinate.  Some patients with urinary tract infections might notice blood in urine, have difficulty passing urine, or have a sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. <\/p>\n

Fever<\/strong> is rare with simple UTIs but can occur if there is incomplete bladder emptying, kidney infection (pyelonephritis), prostatitis, or kidney stones.  Fever is a sign of severe UTI<\/strong> and requires prompt treatment.<\/p>\n

Symptoms that men and women experience when they have a UTI are not specific to UTI.  Other medical problems,<\/strong> such as the overactive bladder<\/a>, bladder stones<\/a>, kidney stones<\/a>, and bladder cancer<\/a>, can cause similar symptoms.<\/p>\n

Urinary tract infections are very common.  They are more common in women, but become more common in men as men age.  Most UTIs (urinary tract infections) are caused by bacteria, but may also be caused by a fungus (Candida), viruses, and atypical bacteria.<\/p>\n

UTI can occur as a result of sexual activity, but many UTIs are not related to sexual activity.  Several different UTIs can be caused by sexual activity.  Vaginal, oral, and anal sex can cause UTI caused by different bacteria.  Urethritis is a type of urinary tract infection (UTI) that causes irritation, pain, discomfort, and possibly urethral discharge.<\/p>\n

What is UTI?<\/span><\/h2>\n

UTI<\/strong> is an abbreviation that refers to Urinary Tract Infection.  A urinary tract infection simply means an infection of the urinary tract.  UTI can be a bladder infection, kidney infection, or urethral infection.  In men, bacterial prostatitis and epididymo-orchitis are often associated with UTI.  The causes of UTI in women <\/a>are different from those in men.  Treatment of UTI in men<\/a> is also different.<\/p>\n

Symptoms of UTI<\/span><\/h2>\n

Symptoms of UTI <\/a>vary depending on the organs involved.  It is important to note that symptoms of UTI may be caused by many other conditions.  <\/strong>It is important to actually verify the presence of UTI before treatment, as symptoms may be caused by other unrecognized medical problems.<\/p>\n

A bladder infection<\/strong> can present with symptoms of bladder area or pelvic discomfort<\/a> or mild pain, pain during urination, frequent urination<\/a>, or difficulty urinating.  It can also cause blood in the urine.<\/p>\n

Kidney infection<\/strong><\/a> can present with flank pain, nausea, and vomiting, as well as fever.  Typically, patients feel sicker when they have a kidney infection compared to a bladder infection.<\/p>\n

Fever may or may not be present with a UTI.<\/p>\n
