\"VaginalVaginal Yeast Infections<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Yeast infections are particularly common in women.  There is a variety of causes for yeast infections, including the microflora of the vagina, use of antibiotics and douching.<\/p>\n

One often overlooked cause is Candida infection during sex.  It is known that fungal infections can be transmitted during sexual intercourse.  While not common, recurrent yeast infections in women with a new partner or that occur after sex may be an indication that despite treatment, the woman gets re-infected through sexual intercourse.  Sometimes infections occur after unprotected sex but not when condoms are used.<\/p>\n

Yeast Infection in Men and Sex<\/strong><\/h2>\n

While fungal yeast infections such as Candida are not common in men, some men are more predisposed to fungal infections.  Diabetic men are at higher risk for yeast infections.  So are obese men.  Fungal infections in men may be symptomatic or may be relatively symptom-free.  In men, an infection could cause fungal balanitis (inflammation of the foreskin), redness on the penis, and pain when urinating.  In some men, infections do not manifest themselves, as the infection may be hidden inside the prostate and the seminal fluid.  During sex, seminal fluid can transmit an infection to the female partner.<\/p>\n
