Pain after Vasectomy<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"PainUsually, pain after vasectomy<\/a> <\/strong>is fairly minor if a vasectomy is performed as a no-scalpel procedure<\/strong>.  Even with the traditional vasectomy, men should not have much pain after the procedure if an adequate pain management plan is prescribed and an adequate amount of local anesthesia is administered.<\/p>\n

Many patients may not require any pain medications on the 1st<\/sup> day but may experience slightly more discomfort on the second and third days. <\/p>\n

Typically, patients may experience heaviness in the scrotum and some discomfort for about a week, which tends to get better over time. <\/strong> Some men experience mild pain and discomfort for a few weeks.  Others may have minor occasional discomfort that can last for a few months.<\/p>\n

Pain or Discomfort Lasting More than a Few Weeks is Uncommon<\/h2>\n

A small number of men experience more significant pain that lasts beyond 3 months.  Should that occur, reevaluation and treatment may be necessary.  Treatment options for pain after a vasectomy<\/strong> that lasts longer than 3-6 months include spermatic cord block with a local anesthetic<\/strong>, observation, and anti-inflammatory medications<\/strong>.  If pain persists for more than 6 months and sufficiently bothersome, other treatment options such as spermatic cord denervation<\/strong> or vasectomy reversal<\/strong> may be considered depending on the severity of pain.<\/p>\n
