What is Clamp Circumcision?
Clamp circumcision refers to a surgical technique of performing circumcision. In clamp circumcision, a special clamp is placed to compress the edges of the foreskin before removing the ‘extra’ skin. The clamp prevents bleeding and allows for the healing of the skin edges. Typically, no stitches are used as the clamp holds the edges or the edges are approximated well enough to heal on their own.
When is Clamp Circumcision Performed?
A new clamp-based technique CircCurer which is an automatic sutured anastomosis combines the benefits of sleeve circumcision and clamp circumcision. It is going to be available in the US in a few years.
What are the Alternatives to Clamp Circumcision?
Sleeve circumcision is a common technique of circumcision. Clamp circumcision is the most common method of circumcision in newborn boys in the US. Sleeve circumcision is more commonly used in adults.
In the Jewish tradition, mohels use a different technique that is similar to the ‘sleeve circumcision”.
In men with frenulum breve, sleeve circumcision allows the simultaneous treatment of the frenulum breve.

Clamp circumcision can be performed as a low circumcision or high circumcision depending on where the clamp is placed.
Likewise, clamp circumcision can be performed as a loose circumcision or tight circumcision depending on how much foreskin is removed and how much foreskin is left.
