Common Causes of Poor Sperm Motility in Infertile Men on semen analysis.

  • Lack of frequent ejaculation.
  • Urinary tract or STD infections.
  • Varicoceles
  • Reproductive tract obstruction
  • Genetic defects.

shutterstock_101692915_ivfDepending on the cause of poor sperm motility, specific treatment can be initiated.  If there is an infection, specific treatment of infection is undertaken.  Varicoceles can be treated with microscopic varicocelectomy.  Certain supplements such as carnitine may be beneficial for some men with poor sperm motility.  It is important to remember that it takes around 3 months for new sperm to be produced.
