Congenital Penile Curvature: 30-year-old Man Treated at New York Urology Specialists

Penile Pearly PapulesLJ is a 30-year-old man with complaints of a bent penis that has been present all his life.  The curvature makes it difficult to engage in sexual activity.  He is able to engage in sex only in certain positions. 

A physical exam revealed a normal-appearing penis.  Artificial erection was induced, and a ventral curvature was noted. The curvature was measured to be 45-50 degrees ventrally (pointing down) with the apex (maximum center point) of the curvature at mid-shaft of the penis.

Treatment options for congenital penile curvature were discussed, including observation and penile plication.  The patient decided to under penile plication.

The patient underwent penile plication under local anesthesia. 

Follow-up Appointment – 2 weeks

The patient came back 2 weeks after penile plication for a follow-up visit.  He reported minimal discomfort after the procedure. He did not take any pain medications. He was able to return to work in 2 days.

The incision was noted to be healing well.

Follow-up Appointment – 6 weeks

The patient came back 6 weeks after penile plication.  The sutures have fallen off.  He reports no pain. He reports that his penis is nearly straight when erect.  He is very satisfied with the appearance of the penis, but he has not engaged in sexual activity as of yet.

The incision was noted to be healing well.

Follow-up Appointment – 3 months

At a follow-up visit 3 months after penile plication for the treatment of congenital ventral penis curvature.  He has no difficulty with sexual activity; reports good erections.  He no longer has difficulty with penetration that existed prior to surgery.  He is highly satisfied with the results of the procedure.  Images of the erect penis were reviewed and revealed minor residual curvature of fewer than 15 degrees.
