Penile Cyst Removal: 43-year-old Man Treated at New York Urology Specialists
JA is a 43-year-old man with complaints of growing penile lump for the past 3 years.
He noticed a small lump starting 3 years ago. The patient reports no pain. The patient denies a history of penile trauma. He is unhappy with the appearance of the penis and concerned that sexual partners think that he has an STD (sexually transmitted infection).
A physical exam revealed a penile cyst 2.5 cm in diameter on the left side of the penile skin mid-way up the penis.
The patient was evaluated. Treatment options were discussed. The lump was ascertained to be non-cancerous. The patient was informed that if it does not bother him, no treatment is necessary. If it bothers him cosmetically, the cyst can be removed easily in our office under local anesthesia. The procedure takes less than 1 hour to perform.
The patient chose to have a same-day procedure with the removal of the penile cyst. Plastic surgery techniques were used to minimize scar formation. The procedure was done under local anesthesia (without the need to go to sleep). The procedure took less than 30 minutes. He was able to go back to work 15 minutes after the procedure. He reported no pain during the procedure.
Follow-up Appointment – 3 weeks after Penile Cyst Surgery
At a follow-up visit 3 weeks after the removal of a cyst from the penis, the patient reports that he did not have any pain and did not require any pain medications.
Examination of the area where the cyst was removed revealed that the area is healing well. There is no evidence of infection. Some stitches that were still present were removed.
The patient was advised that he can go to the beach and swimming. He can engage in sexual activity in 2 weeks.
Follow-up Appointment – 3 months after Penile Cyst Removal Surgery
Video consultation 3 months after penile cyst removal. The patient reported that the area had healed well with minimal scar. He is very satisfied with the appearance of the penis and that he had no pain after the procedure. He reports no change in sensation, and his erections are as good as they were before the surgery. The patient was advised that no further follow-up is necessary at this time as the area has healed well.
