Penoscrotal Webbing Treatment: 32-year-old Man Treated at New York Urology Specialists

EL is a 32-year-old man with complaints of dissatisfaction with the appearance of the penis.  He also reports that he has difficulty keeping condoms on as they roll-off during sex. He reports that the problem is lifelong.

Physical exam revealed moderate-to-severe penoscrotal webbing.

Treatment options were discussed.

The patient elected to undergo penoscrotal web correction surgery. The patient was given a choice of having the procedure under general anesthesia (fully asleep) or under local anesthesia in the office. He chose to undergo the procedure in the office under local anesthesia.

The advantages of local anesthesia include no need for preparation, excellent pain control, and no risks of general anesthesia. By having the procedure under local anesthesia, he is also saving a significant amount of money by avoiding the cost of a surgical center facility fee as well as an anesthesiologist fee.

Follow-up Appointment – Penoscrotal Webbing Repair Surgery

The patient presents for penoscrotal web repair under local anesthesia. The patient was previously advised that he can eat and drink normally before and after the procedure since it is being performed under local anesthesia.

Penile block with bupivacaine was given to induce local anesthesia and numbness of the penis and scrotum. Once the skin was numb, the patient underwent penoscrotal web repair. At the end of the procedure, he reported minimal discomfort during the procedure with a pain score of 2 out of 10 (1 being no pain; 10 being the worst pain if his life).

Follow-up Appointment – 3 weeks after Scrotal Webbing Surgery

The patient came back 3 weeks after the procedure.

He reports no significant pain after the procedure. He did take over-the-counter pain medication on days 2 and 3.

The area was noted to be healing well with minimal inflammation or scar tissue. The patient was advised to apply ScarAway silicone strips to minimize scarring.  He was advised to avoid sexual activity for another 3 weeks until the area heals completely.

Follow-up Appointment – 2 months

At a follow-up visit 2 months after penoscrotal webbing surgery, the patient reports that he has no pain and no discomfort.  He is able to keep condoms on. He is very satisfied with the results of the procedure. There is minimal scarring.
