A variety of penile enhancement procedures and surgeries have been used in the United States and abroad.  These include injection of ‘dermal fillers’ in an effort to enlarge penile size.  A variety of surgeries have been used in an effort to lengthen or widen the penile size.

Common Complications of Penile Dermal Fillers

Common complications after penile dermal filler injections include the following:

  • Phimosis – swelling and tightness of the foreskin of the penis, which usually requires circumcision.
  • Clumping of the filler material, causing a mass in the penis that can interfere with sexual activity, is another common complication.
  • We also see men with too much dermal filler whose penis literally looks round like a tomato which precludes penetrative sexual activity.
  • Skin erosion with filler material creating a scar or a wound to the skin is a less common problem. 

Most of these problems require surgical correction, which at New York Urology Specialists can be performed in the office as a same-day procedure without needing a hospital stay.

Common Complications of Penile Fat Transfer and Graft Material

In addition, complications after the fat transfer are fairly common; cosmetic results typically are not durable and can cause significant scarring. Likewise, allograft implants often cause penile scarring and penile shortening.

At New York Urology Specialists, we offer removal of the transferred fat or grafted material that is causing the problem. Usually, partial removal is necessary. Each surgery is customized to address the individual problems and to minimize complications.

Penile Implant Complications

We treat complications of penile implant insertion, including infection and extrusion or erosion of penile implants through the skin.  We treat complications from inflatable penile implants as well as Penuma girth-enhancing penile implants.

Penuma Implant Complications

Penuma implant is a girth-enlarging silicone implant that is used for penile enhancement.  Some men experience complications from the Penuma implant, including infection, scar formation, penile shortening, and implant erosion.  At New York Urology Specialists, we provide treatment for complications associated with Penuma penile implant, including treatment of infection, penile implant removal, and treatment of scarring, among other problems.  

Circumcision For Treatment of Phimosis Caused by PMMA and Silicone Injections in the Penis

We perform circumcision for men with phimosis after penile injections with PMMA, silicone, fat transfer, and other injectable materials. Circumcision after penile augmentation is very complex due to severe discrepancy between penile shaft circumference and glans and corona diameter caused by injections.  Typically, a complex reconstruction with partial removal of the filler is necessary to achieve a good result.

PMMA Complications:

PMMA can often distribute unevenly in the penis causing “sand-hills” on the penis. It can also cause hypertrophic palpable scar formation. If it’s injected very distally, it may cause difficulty with vaginal penetration.  At New York Urology Specialists, we offer excision of PMMA scar formation, PMMA nodule excision, and penile revision.
