What is Syphilis?

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum. It can be transmitted between heterosexual as well as homosexual partners. It is one of the most potentially dangerous sexually transmitted diseases because if it is not treated it may cause symptoms and infection in virtually any part of the body (secondary and tertiary syphilis).

Symptoms of Syphilis in Men

The most common symptom of syphilis in men is a painless ulcer called, ‘chancre”. It often heals on its own after a few weeks. Unless appropriately treated, the man will still have an infection after the ulcer heals.
