What are the Causes Of Frequent Urination?

shutterstock 249353641 300x200 - Frequent Urination - Schedule Appointment with New York Urology SpecialistsFrequent urination is a common complaint.  Among management women seen at New York urologists specialists.  Many patients have the urgency to go to urinate every 1-2 hours, sometimes more often.  Some patients have frequent urination only during the daytime.  Other patients have frequent urination at night.  Some patients have frequent urination, both at night and during the day.

Causes of urinary frequency, include:

Infection (urinary tract infection, sexually transmitted diseases, or prostate infection/prostatitis in men)

  • Overactive bladder (OAB).
  • Detrusor Overactivity.
  • Enlarged prostate in men.
  • Urinary retention.
  • Incomplete bladder emptying.
  • Bladder cancer
  • Radiation cystitis
  • Small bladder capacity.
  • Neurogenic bladder.

Evaluation for Patients with Symptoms of Overactive Bladder:

  • History and Physical examination
  • Ultrasound of bladder and kidneys
  • Cystoscopy
  • Urodynamics
  • Urinalysis, urine culture
  • Additional studies as needed
