Ejaculation Problems in Men and Orgasmic Dysfunction

Coming Too Fast and Not Coming Soon Enough: Two Problems On The Opposite Spectrum Of Ejaculation That Can Affect Men.

Ejaculation and orgasm at 2 separate functions of the human body.  Because a typically occur simultaneously, men tend to associate them and some men consider them as one event.  It is important to understand that ejaculation and orgasm at 2 different events ejaculation refers to release of seminal fluid or sperm from the penis.  Orgasm refers to the usually pleasurable sensation or ‘release’ that men experience during or right after ejaculation.

It is possible to experience orgasm but not ejaculate.  In other words, men may experience a pleasurable sensation associated with orgasm but may not ejaculate (no sperm or semen comes out).

The opposite situation is also possible when in men may ejaculate but may not experience the sensation or feeling associated with orgasm.

Premature ejaculation is a term used to describe association when a man “comes” or ejaculates semen too fast.

When you make an appointment to see us, one of the first things we will do is clarify whether you are experiencing a problem with ejaculation, orgasm or both.

Testosterone & Ejaculation:

Some men with low testosterone who experience low volume of ejaculate or lack of ejaculation can benefit from testosterone replacement therapy.  Testosterone replacement therapy effectively increases ejaculate volume in some men.

Testosterone replacement therapy in men with low testosterone appears to improve ability to orgasm in some men.

Causes and treatment of ejaculation problems in men are complex.  Testosterone replacement therapy is one of approach used at New York Urology Specialists to treat men with low volume of ejaculate or lack of ejaculation.

Enlarged Prostate and Ejaculation

Another common cause of ejaculatory problem is enlarged prostate. Prostate enlargement usually affects men in their 50s and 60s but occasionally can also affect younger men in their 30s.  Inflammation of prostate or infection can also cause ejaculatory problems in men.

One treatment option for enlarged prostate that has been shown to improve ejaculation function in men is Urolift procedure.  At New York Urology Specialists we perform Urolift procedure in the comfort of our office in under 20 minutes without the need for general anesthesia.

Ejaculation Facts:  What Is the Average Intravaginal Ejaculatory Time?

The duration of time a man can maintain erection after penetrating partner to ejaculation is measured in studies of ejaculation. This is called “intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT)”

Studies show that on average median intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) is around 5-6 minutes.  Younger men tend to have longer intravaginal ejaculatory time and older men tend to have slightly shorter intravaginal ejaculatory time.
