Frenulum Breve of the Penis Can Cause Bent Penis, Pain with Erections, Bleeding and Tears During Sex – Specialized Treatment in New York City
Dr. Alex Shteynshlyuger has performed hundreds of penile frenuloplasty procedures. He is one of the most experienced frenuloplasty specialists in the US.
What is Frenulum Breve of the Penis?
Frenulum breve means ‘short frenulum”. The frenulum is the piece of skin that connects the foreskin to the glans penis (head of the penis). When the skin is too tight, men may experience pain during sex or with erections. The frenulum may also tear and bleed during sex. Typically, the area on the underneath of the penis just below the head is ‘tight’ and may rip during sex.
What is the Treatment for Short Frenulum of the Penis?
Treatment for frenulum breve involves a short office-based procedure, called frenuloplasty, performed under local anesthesia (you do not go to sleep). The procedure takes less than 30 minutes. The success rate of penile frenuloplasty is >95%.
Frenulectomy is a similar procedure to frenuloplasty which involves cutting the frenulum. Frenulectomy leaves the residual ‘frenular ears” or skin tags hanging resulting in less than satisfying cosmetic appearance. Frenuloplasty of the penis involves the removal of the frenulum breve. At New York Urology Specialists we perform frenuloplasty of the penis for our patients to achieve optimal cosmetic appearance and function.
Penile frenuloplasty or frenulectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that can cure frenulum breve. Circumcision can be performed along with penile frenulectomy if desired.
For patients without treatment, the problem often recurs with occasional pain and tears during sex.
Recovery after Frenuloplasty
When the procedure is performed at New York Urology Specialists, we use our experience to make your recovery smooth and uneventful. Most men are able to return to work and regular activities the next day after the procedure. Most men have no or minimal pain and most do not require pain medications.
Men are advised not to engage in sex or masturbation for 3-4 weeks after the procedure. Men are advised not to go to the beach and no swimming is allowed during the first 2 weeks. Stitches typically fall off on their own – baths after 1 week may help to dissolve the stitches. No biking is allowed for 2 weeks but men may go to the GYM and engage in activities that do not involve the penis/scrotum.
