Penile Modeling is Beneficial for Men with Peyronie’s
Penile modeling therapy refers to manual stretching of the penis (and penile plaque) in order to straighten the penis.
Penile modeling is used in combination with Xiaflex injections, verapamil injections, and a penile implant.
How is Penile Modeling Performed?
With the penis erect (but not within 2 weeks of Xiaflex injections), the patient is instructed to provide light counter-traction with the curvature being the fulcrum point.
How does Penile Modeling Work?
Penile modeling is thought to stretch and break up scar tissue while possibly stimulating a new healing process to occur. This can occur through shear stress forces on the tissue as well via mechanoreceptor signaling activation within individual cells.
How Effective is Penile Modeling?
Studies show that penile traction therapy which is a similar type of mechanical stretching has beneficial effects for men with Peyronie’s. Men who undergo penile implant, intraoperative penile modeling often leads to significant improvement of penile curvature. Based on this information, it is thought that penile modeling offers some benefits given low cost and minimal risk of this treatment approach.
Penile modeling alone is unlikely to provide significant benefit in the absence of additional treatment.
