What You Need to Know about Rapaflo Pills (silodosin): Treatment for Enlarged Prostate Symptoms in Men
by Dr. Alex Shteynshlyuger, a board-certified urologist, and specialist in the treatment of enlarged prostate and complex urinary problems using minimally invasive approaches. He is one of the first urologists in the US and NYC to offer Urolift as a treatment for enlarged prostate.
Rapaflo is an Effective Medication for Many Men with Enlarged Prostate Symptoms
Rapaflo, also known as silodosin, is used for the treatment of symptoms of enlarged prostate and men. Rapaflo belongs to a class of medications called “alpha blockers”. Rapaflo is an effective medication that can improve urine flow, decrease urinary urgency and decrease urgent need to urinate often during the day and at night.
Rapaflo (silodosin) pills can Improve Urgency and decrease Urinary Frequency
Rapaflo usually taken as one pill per day, usually taken at night before going to sleep, is very effective in decreasing the need to urinate at night and during the day.
Taking Rapaflo daily can also decrease the urge to urinate.
Cost of Rapaflo (silodosin) Tablets
Rapaflo is not currently available as a generic medication. As a result, Rapaflo is relatively more costly compared to other medications in the same class such as Flomax and Uroxatral. Cost of Rapaflo is about $250 a month compared to less than $20-$30 per month for medication such as Flomax and Uroxatral, which are available as generic medications.
Because there is no significant advantage for most men from using Rapaflo compared to less expensive medications, Rapaflo is not commonly prescribed.
Silodosin (Rapaflo) Side Effects and What to Do If You Get Side Effects to Rapaflo
Side effects of Rapaflo are not very common, most common side effects include dizziness which typically resolves spontaneously within 2-3 days. Men are usually advised to take Rapaflo at night before going to sleep so the dizziness if it occurs, is not symptomatic. If dizziness persists, switching to a different medication often solves the problem. Some men may feel tired the next day after taking Rapaflo. Lack of ejaculation can also occur in some men. Ejaculation problems are not dangerous and reversible if medication is stopped
Ejaculation Problems and Rapaflo: Treatment Options
Rapaflo is associated with lack of ejaculation in some men. Lack of ejaculation tends to be a noticeable and bothersome symptom in men taking Rapaflo. Men who are concerned about this side effect should be aware that this is not a dangerous side effect. Often, switching to a different medication may resolve the problem. Alternatively, Urolift for large prostate typically does not affect ejaculation and often improves ejaculatory function in men.
