Uroxatral is an Effective Treatment for BPH Symptoms
Alfuzosin (brand name in the US: Uroxatral) is an effective medication that treats enlarged prostate symptoms in men. Alfuzosin is effective in treating common symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate in men such as slow urine stream, incomplete bladder emptying, stop and start urination, the need to wake up at night to urinate.
Many men experience significant improvement in symptoms when they are treated with alfuzosin.
Alfuzosin (Uroxatral) has been used by millions of men for many years. It has a good track record of safety and effectiveness.
Alfuzosin can Improve Slow Urine Stream
Alfuzosin can help men with weak urine stream who have difficulty emptying their bladder to empty the bladder more effectively. Men oftentimes experience improved urine flow within days of starting taking the medication. Alfuzosin does not shrink the prostate but it does relax the muscle fibers around the prostate which allows the urine to flow more easily.
Alfuzosin Helps Not To Wake Up at Night to Urinate
Alfuzosin is a very effective treatment for men who need to wake up at night to urinate. Most men experience significant improvement in their symptoms with less need to wake up at night to urinate.
Alfuzosin works in multiple ways to decrease the frequency of nighttime urination in men. First, alfuzosin improves urine flow and allows the bladder to empty more completely. This allows men to go longer periods without the need to urinate again. Second, alfuzosin decreases irritative voiding symptoms and urgency to urinate because the bladder is less full and needs to push less to empty.
Alfuzosin vs Tamsulosin vs Rapaflo (Silodosin)
There is no significant difference in the efficacy of alfuzosin, tamsulosin, and Rapaflo. Some men derive more benefit from one medication than from another. Some men experience side effects to one of these medications but not to others.

Cost of Alfuzosin (Uroxatral )
Alfuzosin is an inexpensive medication. A 1 year supply may cause less than $100-$200 or $10-$20 per month.
Alfuzosin (Uroxatral ) Side Effects and What to Do If You Get Them
It is important to understand that most men do not experience any side effects when they take alfuzosin. It is impossible to predict whether a patient will experience a side effect unless he tries the medication.
Some men experience dizziness and malaise after taking alfuzosin. Often, the side effects disappear after a few days as the body adjusts to the new medication. However, if the side effects are severe or persist, the medication can be stopped. Some men do not ejaculate while they take alfuzosin. This is a transient side effect that disappears once the medication is stopped.
Alternatives to Uroxatral: Treatment Options for Enlarged Prostate if You Have Side Effects or if Alfuzosin Does Not Help
Men who experience side effects to Uroxatrol can often be switched to another medication such as tamsulosin or finasteride, to which they may not have any side effects.
When Uroxatrol stops helping with the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, the addition of another medication such as finasteride can improve symptoms. Typically patient needs to be reevaluated to make sure there are no additional problems such as bladder stones that are causing symptoms. Procedures such as the Rezum procedure and UroLift procedure can help when medications do not help well. Bipolar TURP and laser enucleation of the prostate are other alternatives for men with an enlarged prostate.
