What is iTind for an Enlarged Prostate?

We perform the iTind procedure at New York Urology Specialists.
The major advantages of the iTind procedure are its safety, and lack of side effects. Men do not experience erection or ejaculation problems after the iTind procedure.
Dr. Alex Shteynshlyuger at New York Urology Specialists is one of the first urologists in the United States to offer iTind for the treatment of an enlarged prostate.
The iTind procedure is a minimally invasive alternative to transurethral incision of the prostate, a procedure that generally requires anesthesia and a longer recovery period.
How Effective is iTind for Enlarged Prostate?
Studies show that iTind has good efficacy in improving urinary symptoms of BPH. On average, men experience significant improvement in urinary symptoms as measured by the IPSS questionnaire (AUA symptom score) with 50% improvement in symptoms with the score going from 12 to 20 about 6 weeks after iTind Procedure.
iTind works best in patients with small-to-moderate prostate size and mild to moderate urinary symptoms. Before deciding on iTind, we perform a cystoscopy to make sure there is no significant median lobe. Men with a large median lobe are best treated with other procedures.
Most men feel an immediate improvement in their symptoms once the device is removed 1 week after insertion. You can expect continuous improvement for 3 to 6 months after the procedure. A small amount of blood can occur for 1 to 2 weeks after the procedure.
Most men report a 50% improvement in their symptoms
The total procedure time is less than 15 minutes. Pain score of 1-3/10
How Long Does the iTind Maintain the Benefit of Treatment?
The benefits of the iTind procedure last for up to 3 years and possibly longer. Studies show that the urinary symptoms improved by around 50%, and the urine stream also improved by about over 100%. Post-void residual volume decreases by 50% over a period of 6 months up to 3 years.
Does i-Tind for Enlarged Prostate Symptoms Help with Urine Stream?
Studies show that the iTind procedure for BPH improves the urine stream by greater than 50% from an average flow of 7 mL/s to about 11 mL/s. While symptomatic improvement is noticeable by 1 month, maximum improvement is achieved in about 2-3 months after the procedure and continues up to 3 years after the procedure.
How is the iTind Procedure Performed?
At New York Urology Specialists, we usually perform the iTind procedure under local anesthesia. It can also be performed under general anesthesia. The procedure takes 5-10 minutes to perform.
A cystoscopy is performed to look inside the urethra and the bladder. The iTind device is inserted through the cystoscope and positioned within the prostate. A small string is tied to the penis to keep the device in place. The device stays inside the patient for 5-7 days.
1 week after the procedure, the patient comes back to our office for the device removal. Removing the iTind device is almost painless and takes less than 5 minutes.
We ask patients to wait a few hours after the procedure to make sure that they are able to urinate after the iTind procedure.
What to Expect after the iTind Procedure for an Enlarged Prostate?
A small string will be wrapped around the penis, which can cause some irritation. It will be removed along with the iTind device 1 week after the procedure. You can clean the string with soap and water, and you can shower normally.
It is normal to feel an urgency to urinate, frequent urination, and some discomfort in the area of the prostate for 1 week while the device is inside. These symptoms tend to go away soon after the iTind removal. A small amount of blood can occur for 2 weeks after the procedure.
What are the Risks of iTind Procedure for Enlarged Prostate?
The risks and side effects of the iTind procedure are similar to what would be expected from similar procedures for enlarged prostate treatment. The most common side effects include UTI, a small amount of blood in the urine, and urinary burning that typically resolves within 3-5 days.
Who is a Good Candidate for the iTind Procedure?
Men with prostate size less than 60 ml and no large median lobe are excellent candidates for the iTind procedure.
How Soon Can iTind Be Performed?
iTind for BPH is currently FDA-approved for the treatment of men with BPH and the United States. New York Urology Specialists is scheduling patients for minimally invasive iTind procedure.
