Cost of Urolift Procedure for Patients  Paying Out of Pocket with Cash, Debit Card, Credit Card or PayPal

There are two parts to consider when discussing the cost of a Urolift procedure.

shutterstock_72351682At New York Urology Specialists, we recognize that treatment for enlarged prostate without insurance is not cheap.

Our extensive experience with Urolift procedure ensures that patients get one of the most experienced urologists to perform their Urolift procedure to achieve functional success in a safe environment.

Our Urolift Program Offers Several Advantages to Patients without Insurance or whose insurance does not cover the Urolift procedure and who are willing to pay out of pocket for the procedure:

  1. Urolift Procedure is performed in the office under local anesthesia.  The first thing to understand is that most patients who have the procedure done under local anesthesia have minimal discomfort during the procedure.  With our unique, Triple-Block local anesthesia, we achieve similar success in terms of pain control that patients get with general anesthesia.  (2)  You avoid the risks of general anesthesia including recovery from general anesthesia.
  2. By avoiding hospital or surgical center and general anesthesia, you avoid two of the three largest costs involved in the Urolift procedure which can amount to thousands of dollars of unnecessary fees.

Good News: Financing Options for Urolift Procedure

We offer a number of financing options for a Urolift procedure which may allow you to make the Urolift procedure more affordable.

Flat Fee for the Urolift procedure? You are paying too much!

Our goal is to make sure that our patients get the most benefit from the Urolift procedure.  Depending on prostate anatomy, patients may require 4-6 Urolift stents; some men may require as many as 7-8 stents to maximize effectiveness.

Because the cost of each Urolift stents is a major variable in the cost of the procedure, flat fee pricing will likely result in you getting 4 implants even if you really need 6 and less than adequate benefit from the Urolift procedure.   While the price may seem better than paying for the number implant, as the saying goes, what you pay for is what you get.  If you pay a flat fee, you’re likely to get less (4 implants) which will actually cost you more.

At New York Urology Specialists our goal is to provide an optimal outcome for our patients at a fair price.  For this reason, we do not offer flat pricing.  Because we did not make money on Urolift implants, we have no incentive to use more Urolift implants than is necessary.  Our fee for each Urolift implant simply covers the cost of the implant and the handling charges.

 Overall Cost of Urolift Procedure

The overall cost of Urolift System for BPH should also consider the cost of evaluating whether the patient is a good candidate for Urolift.  Evaluation is just as important as the procedure itself.  If Urolift is not a good option for you based on evaluation, for example, if after evaluation the chance of Urolift failure is 80% because your prostate is too large, you have an obstructing large median lobe and a high post-void residual, you’re not likely to benefit much and you would be better off with another treatment option. It is important that your urologist is not a technician who simply performs the Urolift procedure but will advise you well whether Urolift is truly a good option for you.

All patients interested in Urolift procedure will need to have cystoscopy procedure.   Additional studies such as Uroflow/post-void residual ultrasound and other routine tests are usually performed.
