Urolift Procedure – United Healthcare (UHC) Coverage.
UnitedHealthcare plans cover the Urolift procedure for our patients.
Eligible men include those men over age 45 who have symptoms of BPH, favorable anatomy, and prefer Urolift over other treatment options. Men younger than 45 may also qualify if the evaluation confirms the diagnosis of BPH. Typically a preauthorization and precertification are required for men younger than 45.
At New York Urology Specialists, we can perform the Urolift procedure for men with UnitedHealthcare insurance. All procedures are performed in our office in New York City or affiliated surgical centers. We can perform Urolift for men who live anywhere in the United States or abroad when they come to our New York office for treatment. UnitedHealthcare will cover the cost of treatment regardless of where you live.
Treatment with the Urolift system usually takes about 15-20 minutes. We administer pain medications and antibiotics about 30 minutes prior to the procedure. Men traveling from other states and countries can usually return home the next day after the procedure. UnitedHealthcare international insurance requires pre-certification to determine if the procedure will be covered by an international UHC plan.
Does the UnitedHealthcare Cover Urolift Procedure?
UnitedHealthcare covers Urolift surgery for patients nationwide, including those in NY, NJ, CT, and PA. We have patients who live or travel from different parts of the country and as far as from Puerto Rico.
Typically Urolift is covered for men over age 45-50 who have bothersome symptoms of BPH. For younger men, insurance pre-authorization will be necessary to establish coverage from UHC (United Healthcare).
At New York Urology Specialists we perform a thorough evaluation of men with an enlarged prostate to determine what is the optimal treatment for them. This includes a physical exam, blood tests such as PSA, prostate ultrasound, post-void residual measurement, cystoscopy, and urodynamics study if necessary. Once the evaluation is complete, the information is forwarded to your health insurance, United Healthcare Health Plan for preauthorization.
As one of the most experienced urological office that performs Urolift procedure for United Healthcare members, we have extensive experience working with United Healthcare on getting the Urolift procedure covered. For men who do not qualify for the Urolift procedure because of the severity of their condition or anatomy, the UnitedHealthcare health plan covers other treatment options including medications such as tamsulosin, Rezum procedure for enlarged prostate, HOLEP laser enucleation, and Greenlight laser.
We offer personalized treatment options for BPH for men with symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
