All treatments are associated with some risks. Relative to other treatment options, it appears that shockwave for ED is relatively safe with no long-term side effects.
How Does Shockwave Therapy for ED Work?
Shock wave therapy induces changes in the blood vessels to make them more responsive to sexual stimulation and also stimulates angiogenesis, the formation of tiny microscopic new blood vessels in the penis. Shockwave helps blood vessels to have a more normal response to hormones and nerve stimulation. The effect of the shockwave is partially similar to the effect that medications such as Viagra and Cialis create in the penis.
This leads to improved blood flow to the penis. The result is that men are able to obtain erections more normally. Some men are able to get better erections without medications, other men are able to get better erections with the same or lower dose of medications.

What is the Treatment Schedule for Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction? Do I Have to be Treated Continuously?
With shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction, there is no need for lifelong treatment. Often 1 course of treatment spaced over a 3 month period will lead to long-term improvement in erectile function, in some patients for up to 2 years. However, studies show that continuous treatment helps to maintain the benefit of treatment.

The number of treatments (induction therapy) and maintenance therapy is individualized to each patient based on the severity of underlying erectile dysfunction as well as vascular risk factors.

How Effective is Shockwave Therapy for Treatment of Impotence?

Many men treated with shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction find that they no longer need medications (Viagra, Cialis, Stendra, Levitra, etc) to obtain and maintain an adequate erection. Other men find that they can get a better erection with medications after treatment with shockwave therapy then they could get with medications alone.
It is important to understand that not every man is a candidate for shockwave therapy and not every man will benefit from it.
How Does Penile Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction Compare to Medications such as Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, Stendra?
For many men, shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction can be as effective or more effective than medications typically used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Unlike medications, with shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction there is no need to time sexual activity to medication use and sex can be more natural and spontaneous.
It is important to know that shockwave therapy works only for men who have an underlying vascular disease. For men who have erection problems as a result of nervous system dysfunction (anxiety, depression, multiple sclerosis), shockwave therapy will not work.
What are the Common Side Effects of Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction?
Most men report no side effects with low-energy shockwave therapy for ED. Occasional side effects of shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction include mild discomfort (tingling sensation) in the penis that may occur during treatment, usually during the first session.
For men who are not candidates for shockwave treatment or if shockwave therapy does not provide adequate improvement, other treatments for ED are available.
Does Shockwave Therapy Work for Everyone?
While shockwave therapy for ED can help many men get better erections, it is not for everyone. A thorough evaluation is necessary to determine the causes of ED and to decide on treatment options which may include shockwave therapy for ED.
Shockwave therapy for ED is likely to work for men with high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease. It is less likely to be appropriate for younger healthy men unless they have vascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes or obesity.
Men with veno-occlusive insufficiency or venous leak do not benefit from shockwave therapy unless the problem is mild and can be compensated with improved arterial blood inflow. At New York Urology Specialists, we perform testing on all men who are interested in shockwave therapy for ED to make sure that their ED is not caused by a venous leak. This avoids unnecessary costs of doing shockwave therapy and time commitment for men for whom shockwave is very unlikely to work.
Shockwave therapy for ED works best for men who have mild to moderate ED, which usually means that oral medications such as sildenafil (Viagra), Cialis, Levitra, and Stendra work well or at least help somewhat. For these men, as many as 80% can stop taking oral medications, may get better erection quality with medications, or may require a lower dose of medications.
Our experience demonstrates that even with men with moderate-to-severe ED, shockwave therapy can be effective for many men. As many as 60-70% of men are able to get spontaneous erections with better erection quality, usually in combination with medications such as sildenafil, and tadalafil.
Treatments with shockwave therapy such as Storz, Renova, and Medispec are less likely to work if erectile dysfunction is severe and oral medications do not work at all. For men for whom oral medications such as Viagra do not work, the success rate of treatments such as Storz, Renova and Medispec shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction is 30-50%. We first attempt to optimize the patient’s condition prior to initiating shockwave therapy in a situation where the problem is severe and the shockwave is unlikely to work. In addition, we offer other very effective treatment options for ED such as penile injections with Trimix and penile implant.

I saw the reviews about this place and was very hesitant to go but something was telling me to go with them and I don't regret it at all, the doctor did a great job and helped me understand the process plus the staff was amazing I would highly recommend it to anyone! quick story after the procedure I was in soo much pain and called the office on a SUNDAY, the doctor gave me a call back within 15 minutes and prescribed a stronger medication, to me that meant a lot for the doctor to take time from his day on a Sunday to help me.

Overall, it was a good experience. Dr. Shteynshlyuger (Dr. Alex) was very nice, warm and helpful. He performed a Shang Ring circumcision for me and the procedure went well. I'm pleased with the results and there were no complications. If anyone is interested in the shang ring circumcision in the tristate area, then I'd recommend him. The whole procedure is $1850, which includes the initial consultation (provided that ther are no complications) and every follow up visit up to six months.
